Mario Kart 8 is a racing game for the Wii U. It is the 8th game in the Mario Kart series. It features several Mario characters and a few non-Mario characters, including Miis. Miis can also wear costumes based on certain amiibo. It later recieved an expanded port on Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The amiibo usable for unlocking costumes are Mario/Dr. Mario (both unlock the Mario costume), Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Link/Toon Link (both unlock the Link costume), Kirby, Captain Falcon, Samus/Zero Suit Samus (both unlock the Samus costume), Fox, Mega Man, Sonic, Villager (which unlocks the Animal Crossing costume), Pac-Man, Toad, Wario, Olimar (which unlocks the Pikmin costume), Rosalina, and Bowser. In the Nintendo Switch port, an Inkling costume is added while the Pikmin amiibo can be used to unlock the Pikmin costume and any Animal Crossing character can be used to unlock the Animal Crossing suit.

Trivia

  • Miis do not appear in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version of Coconut Mall, despite them appearing in cars as hazards in Mario Kart Wii.
