==Preparing to move a page==
MiiWiki is a place for covering all things officially related to [[Mii]]s in an encyclopedic manner, and as such, is not the place for theories, fanart, etc., and any other discussion that is not beneficial to the wiki as a factual encyclopedic resource. However, we do have accounts and groups on social media for this purpose.
If a page does not obviously need to be moved or is a high-profile page, then {{t|Move}} should be put on the page in question and a discussion started on the [[Help:Talk pages|talk page]] before the page is moved.
==Discord==
==How to move a page==
MiiWiki has a Discord server owned by [[User:Kirb|Kirb]], and in addition to being used for discussion of wiki matters, it also has a live recent changes and channels for chatting and sharing created [[Mii]]s. It also has a voice channel. You can join by clicking [https://discord.gg/AA3RrkUuqk here]. A free discord account is required to join. The discord staff is the same as [[MiiWiki:Ranks#Staff ranks|the wiki staff]], and there are also roles for [[MiiWiki:Ranks#Support|wiki support members]] and users with wiki accounts.

Moving a page can be done by clicking the "move" tab at the top of the page. (If this does not appear, you do not have permission to move pages yet.) This will take you to a form with several fields.

MiiWiki aims to get content in order to be a good resource. However, content that is not helpful to MiiWiki as a resource will need to be deleted.
==Marking pages for deletion==
Pages that should be deleted should be marked with <code><nowiki>{{Delete|Reason}}</nowiki></code>. This adds a notice to the page and puts it in [[:Category:To be deleted]]. If the page isn't one that needs to be deleted immediately, then the editor adding the deletion notice should also start a [[help:Talk pages|talk page discussion]] regarding it. They should also make sure to orphan the page first ([[Special:Whatlinkshere]] should display no pages).
==Content that should be deleted==
*Unnecessary redirects
**File/Template/Talk redirects
**Userspace redirects (unless it is a subpage of a non-redirect page or it was created from a renaming)
**Redirects with qualifiers
**Redirects using fan names
**Typo redirects
*Duplicate files

Occasionally users on a wiki will disagree on how to best cover something. If two or more users are undoing each other's edits (commonly known as an edit war) and neither is vandalizing the page, then it is a dispute. Disputes should be handled through the following steps as necessary:
#{{t|Dispute}} should be added to the page or section to indicate that the part of it being disputed should not be edited. It should also be protected by an [[MiiWiki:Ranks#Administrator|administrator]] if the entire page is being disputed.
#The editors disputing should explain their reasons for their edits on the [[help:talk pages|talk page]]
#If this fails to solve the issue, a vote should be held on the talk page
#If the vote ends in a tie, then an administrator should settle the dispute

{{About|personal images and audio|other personal things on the wiki|[[Help:Userspace]]}}
Personal content is allowed on MiiWiki in order for users to express themselves on their userpages. However, as the wiki's primary purpose is to be a factual resource and not a [[MiiWiki:Social media|social network]], there are limits on personal files.
==Uploading personal files==
Personal files can be uploaded at [[Special:Upload]] like any other file (see [[Help:Files]], although do note that personal files do not need to meet all of the guidelines listed there). However, unlike other files, they have special parameters on {{t|Aboutfile}}:
*<code>|type=user</code> indicates that it is a personal file
*<code>|user=[username]</code> indicates which user it is the file of (replace [username] with your username)
==Guidelines for personal files==
Personal files must still be [[Help:Files#Sourcing|properly sourced]], be of a supported filetype, and be fair use, freely licensed, or [[wikipedia:public domain|public domain]]. Other than that, personal files don't have any content restrictions, although a single user cannot have more than five personal files.

{{Custom|This section is a draft of a mainspace page.<br>As such, feel free to work on it like you would any other page}}
Naming an article is important, as it is what shows up at the top of the page and in search results. These are the guidelines for naming pages.
==Basic naming==
Titles should match the source material as much is allowable within MediaWiki limitations. Special characters can be used in page names (with a few exceptions, such as #), although [[help:redirects|redirects]] without special characters should be made (for mainspace pages only) for ease of searching. Also, special characters should be avoided whenever possible in names of files.
==Qualifiers==
If there are multiple articles with identical titles, descriptive words in parentheses should be used to differentiate them. If they are of equal importance, they both get qualifiers and the non-qualifier link is a [[Help:disambiguation|disambiguation]]. If one is more important than the other, it gets the title without qualifiers.
==Sources==
More descriptive names and newer names are typically preferred over less descriptive and older names. For name sources, use the following list, numbered by priority.
#In-game names.
#Sources published by the developer or publisher of the game (guides, websites, etc.).
#Third-party officially licensed sources.
#Names from sources in non-English languages. If the developer/publisher is based in a country whose native language is not English, that language takes priority over other non-English languages. These should be marked with {{t|ForeignTitle}}.
#Game data filenames, which should be marked with {{t|Internal title}}.
#Fan names, which should be marked with {{t|Conjectural title}}.
Other names that are in one of the first five categories but are not the primary title should be made into [[Help:redirects|redirects]].

Redirects are pages that automatically send the user to a different page.

==Creating a redirect==
Creating a redirect is simple, being just a page with nothing but <code><nowiki>#REDIRECT[[target page]]</nowiki></code>. Redirects should be made for:
*Official names that are not the page's title
*Common abbreviations of names
*Official typos
*Unpluralized versions of pages with plural titles

==Uneeded redirects==
Redirects should ''not'' be made for the following:
*File/Template/Talk pages
*Userpages (unless it is a subpage of a non-redirect page or it was created from a renaming)
*Pages with qualifiers
*Fan names (heavily used fan names based on the official name may be allowed)
*Unofficial typos

'''Talk pages''' are pages on the wiki used for communicating with other users about the wiki. They are not social spaces, for those, see [[MiiWiki:Social media]]. Keep in mind that you should ''never'' edit other people's messages unless it contains a link to something that doesn't exist.
==Talk page usage==
===Formatting===
To access a talk page, click the discussion tab at the top of an article. To continue an existing discussion, click the edit button next to the conversation header. To start an existing discussion, click the + button at the top next to the edit button. New messages in an existing topic should be after all previous messages, with one more colon at the beginning (:) than the message immediately prior. (If a conversation is getting particularly long, the colons may be reset to zero.) Messages should be signed using <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code>. (If you would like to change the formatting that this code applies, see [[Help:Custom signatures]].)
===Etiquette===
Messages in talk pages do not need to follow standard wiki writing guidelines, instead writing as you would speak to another person. However, adult language such as profanity should be avoided unless it directly relates to the subject being discussed. In addition, be sure to respect other users.
===Messages concerning other users===
For messages concerning other users rather than pages, see their user talk pages. Like discussion page for normal articles, these are located under the discussion tab of their userpage (linked to in edit histories and ideally their signatures).

==Non-talk page discussions==
Major discussions that concern the wiki should be held on talk pages so that all users can participate. For less major discussions and all discussions not related to the wiki as a resource, see [[MiiWiki:Social media]].

=[[Help:Userspace]]=
{{Custom|This section is a draft of a mainspace page.<br>As such, feel free to work on it like you would any other page}}
The <code>User:</code> namespace (commonly known as '''Userspace''') is a part of the wiki where users can tell other users about themselves and draft pages that aren't ready for mainspace.
==How to edit userspace==
Userspace is identical to other sections of the wiki (except for user css and js pages) in terms of how it is edited. To access it, click a user's name in a [[Help:talk pages|talk page]] [[Help:Custom signatures|signature]], in [[Special:RecentChanges]], or in pages' histories. If the page starts with <code>User:</code> then it is their userpage, if it starts with <code>User talk:</code> then it is their [[Help:Talk pages#Messages concerning other users|user talk page]]. Userpages should not be edited by other users unless the user gives permission or there is a link to something that doesn't exist and has no need to exist (such as a file that has been moved). User talk pages can be edited under normal talk page rules.

==Uses for userspace==
*Putting information about yourself on your main user page only (i.e. no / in the page title) (For example, [[Template:Userbox|userboxes]])
*Drafting pages that aren't ready for mainspace yet (typically on a subpage, with a / after the user's name).
*Contacting other users about wiki matters on their user talk page (See [[Help:Talk pages#Messages concerning other users]])
*Custom user Cascading Style Sheets or JavaScript pages
**<code>User:Username/[skinname].css</code> for custom CSS or <code>User:Username/[skinname].js</code> for custom JS
**<code>[skinname]</code> is the name of the skin selected in [[Special:Preferences]]. To apply something to all skins, use <code>Common</code>

==What userspace should not be used for==
*Socialization on non-wiki matters (see [[MiiWiki:Social media|our social media channels]] for that)
*Editing userspace excessively (the rest of the wiki should be a priority)

=[[Help:Custom signatures]]=
{{Custom|This section is a draft of a mainspace page.<br>As such, feel free to work on it like you would any other page}}
'''Custom signatures''' are a way of identifying a user's talk page messages besides simple text, and can be modified in any way text can. Small images are also allowed.

==How to make and use custom signatures==
To make a basic custom signature:
#Go to [[Special:MyPage/sig]]
#Copy-paste <code><nowiki>[[User:Example|Example]] ([[User talk:Example|talk]])</nowiki></code>, replacing <code>Example</code> with your username, then make modifications as desired.
#Go to [[Special:Preferences]], scroll to the signature section, and paste <code><nowiki>{{User:Example/sig}}</nowiki></code>, replacing <code>Example</code> with your username, then check the treat signature as wikitext box on.
#Scroll to the bottom and hit save. Signing comments with <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> now uses your custom signature.

==Guidelines for custom signautures==
*Your signature needs to identify who you are.
*Text should contrast the page background enough to be legible.
*Don't make the text massive or too small to read.
*Be sure to link to your [[help:userspace|userpage]] and user talk page.
*Don't make signatures exessively long.
*No line breaks.
*Be sure to put closing tags on any formatting.
*No more than two images, and images must be 24px high or shorter and inline. (<code><nowiki>[[File:Filename.ext|x24px]]</nowiki></code>)

=[[MiiWiki:Audio standards]]=
While audio is allowed on MiiWiki, there are some additional standards that apply to it.

==Clipping==
Unless it is [[wikipedia:public domain|public domain]], audio that is longer than 30 seconds should be clipped to that length or shorter. Ideally there should also be a fade-out at the end of it spanning a couple of seconds.

==Modification==
Aside from the above-mentioned clipping and fading, audio should never be modified.

==Uploading==
{{Main|Help:Files}}
Audio should be uploaded as .oga or .mp3 files. If a file is in another format, it may be converted to one of those two, but do not convert audio that is already in one of those two formats. (.ogg files can just be renamed to .oga on the upload screen.) In addition, the type= parameter on {{t|Aboutfile}} should be just <code>audio</code>.

Moving a page changes the URL and display name of a page on the wiki. As such, it should only be done when necessary, but it is fairly simple to do.

Preparing to move a page

If a page does not obviously need to be moved or is a high-profile page, then {{Move}} should be put on the page in question and a discussion started on the talk page before the page is moved.

How to move a page

The page move form.

Moving a page can be done by clicking the "move" tab at the top of the page. (If this does not appear, you do not have permission to move pages yet.) This will take you to a form with several fields.

  • The dropdown box is for selecting a namespace. This is typically left alone unless you're moving a userspace draft to mainspace.
  • The top text box is for changing the title of the page, which has the old title by default. This is what needs to be changed.
  • The bottom text box is for the reason you're changing the title. This should always be filled out.
  • Unchecking the "Leave a redirect behind" box will cause a redirect to not be generated. This should always be checked off for templates and files not used on many pages, but is usually left on for articles. Note that this only appears once you are autopatrolled, and if you are not autopatrolled then {{Delete}} will have to be applied to the redirect at the old name so it can be deleted manually.
  • "Watch source page and target page" adds the old and new titles to your watchlist.
  • Not shown: checkboxes for moving the associated talk page and moving associated subpages. These should almost always be checked.

When all fields are filled out, click the blue "Move page" button.

After moving

Moving a page does not automatically change links. If the page/file is linked/used on a large number of pages, ask an admin to perform the move so they can run a text replacement afterwards. If it is not used on as many pages, go to the old title and click "What links here" on the sidebar to see any pages with links needing to be changed. You can also load this page before clicking the move button in order to reduce the time in which links are not up to date.
