To access a talk page, click the discussion tab at the top of an article. To continue an existing discussion, click the edit button next to the conversation header. To start an existing discussion, click the + button at the top next to the edit button. New messages in an existing topic should be after all previous messages, with one more colon at the beginning (:) than the message immediately prior. MiiWiki is a place for covering all things officially related to Miis in an encyclopedic manner, and as such, is not the place for theories, fanart, etc., and any other discussion that is not beneficial to the wiki as a factual encyclopedic resource. However, we do have accounts and groups on social media for this purpose.

Discord

MiiWiki has a Discord server owned by Kirb, and in addition to being used for discussion of wiki matters, it also has a live recent changes and channels for chatting and sharing created Miis. It also has a voice channel. You can join by clicking here. A free discord account is required to join. The discord staff is the same as the wiki staff, and there are also roles for wiki support members and users with wiki accounts.

Discord rules
  1. No foul language (including custom statuses).
  2. Do not post anything NSFW
  3. Be respectful and kind towards other members.
  4. Don't spam or post in the wrong channel.
  5. If a staff member, especially admin+, tells you to do something, do it or else.
  6. If you have any issues with staff, please DM me (kirb) about it.
  7. Don't ask for staff roles, those are reserved for wiki staff.
  8. Please keep politics and other sensitive issues to a minimum.
  9. If you want to post a Discord server invite link here, please get an admin's permission first.
  10. Please don't discuss or complain about bans from other places.

Instagram

MiiWiki has a currently unused Instagram account owned by Kirb.

MiiWiki aims to get content in order to be a good resource. However, content that is not helpful to MiiWiki as a resource will need to be deleted.

Marking pages for deletion

Pages that should be deleted should be marked with {{Delete}} with a reason. This adds a notice to the page and puts it in Category:To be deleted. If the page isn't one that needs to be deleted immediately, then the editor adding the deletion notice should also start a talk page discussion regarding it. They should also make sure to orphan the page first (Special:Whatlinkshere should display no pages).

Content that should be deleted

  • Unnecessary redirects
    • File/Template/Talk redirects
    • Userspace redirects (unless it is a subpage of a non-redirect page or it was created from a renaming)
    • Redirects with qualifiers
    • Redirects using fan names
    • Typo redirects
  • Duplicate files
  • Outside scope
  • Anything illegal
  • Personal files if a single user has more than 5 (the user should be contacted first and asked which one should be deleted)

Occasionally users on a wiki will disagree on how to best cover something. If two or more users are undoing each other's edits (commonly known as an edit war) and neither is vandalizing the page, then it is a dispute. Disputes should be handled through the following steps as necessary:

  1. {{Dispute}} should be added to the page or section to indicate that the part of it being disputed should not be edited. It should also be protected by an administrator if the entire page is being disputed.
  2. The editors disputing should explain their reasons for their edits on the talk page
  3. If this fails to solve the issue, a vote should be held on the talk page
  4. If the vote ends in a tie, then an administrator should settle the dispute

MiiWiki:Personal content policy

This article is about personal images and audio. For other personal things on the wiki, see Help:Userspace.

Personal content is allowed on MiiWiki in order for users to express themselves on their userpages. However, as the wiki's primary purpose is to be a factual resource and not a social network, there are limits on personal files.

Uploading personal files

Personal files can be uploaded at Special:Upload like any other file (see Help:Files, although do note that personal files do not need to meet all of the guidelines listed there). However, unlike other files, they have special parameters on {{Aboutfile}}:

  • |type=user indicates that it is a personal file
  • |user=[username] indicates which user it is the file of (replace [username] with your username)

Guidelines for personal files

Personal files must still be properly sourced, be of a supported filetype, and not be illegal. Other than that, personal files don't have any content restrictions, although a single user cannot have more than five personal files.

Naming an article is important, as it is what shows up at the top of the page and in search results. These are the guidelines for naming pages.

Basic naming

Titles should match the source material as much is allowable within MediaWiki limitations. Special characters can be used in filenames (with a few exceptions, such as #), although redirects without special characters should be made for ease of searching.

Qualifiers

If there are multiple articles with identical titles, descriptive words in parentheses should be used to differentiate them. If they are of equal importance, they both get qualifiers and the non-qualifier link is a disambiguation. If one is more important than the other, it gets the title without qualifiers.

Sources

More descriptive names and newer names are typically preferred over less descriptive and older names. For name sources, use the following list, numbered by priority.

  1. In-game names.
  2. Sources published by the developer or publisher of the game (guides, websites, etc.).
  3. Third-party officially licensed sources.
  4. Names from sources in non-English languages. If the developer/publisher is based in a country whose native language is not English, that language takes priority over other non-English languages. These should be marked with {{ForeignTitle}}.
  5. Game data filenames, which should be marked with {{Internal title}}.
  6. Fan names, which should be marked with {{Conjectural title}}.

Other names that are in one of the first five categories but are not the primary title should be made into redirects.

Files

See Help:Files#Naming

Help:Redirects

Redirects are pages that automatically send the user to a different page.

Creating a redirect

Creating a redirect is simple, being just a page with nothing but #REDIRECT[[target page]]. Redirects should be made for:

  • Official names that are not the page's title
  • Common abbreviations of names
  • Official typos
  • Unpluralized versions of pages with plural titles

Uneeded redirects

Redirects should not be made for the following:

  • File/Template/Talk pages
  • Userpages (unless it is a subpage of a non-redirect page or it was created from a renaming)
  • Pages with qualifiers
  • Fan names (heavily used fan names based on the official name may be allowed)
  • Unofficial typos

Help:Talk pages

Talk pages are pages on the wiki used for communicating with other users about the wiki. They are not social spaces, for those, see MiiWiki:Social media.

Talk page usage

Formatting

To access a talk page, click the discussion tab at the top of an article. To continue an existing discussion, click the edit button next to the conversation header. To start an existing discussion, click the + button at the top next to the edit button. New messages in an existing topic should be after all previous messages, with one more colon at the beginning (:) than the message immediately prior. (If a conversation is getting particularly long, the colons may be reset to zero.) Messages should be signed using ~~~~. (If you would like to change the formatting that this code applies, see Help:Custom signatures.)

Etiquette

Messages in talk pages do not need to follow standard wiki writing guidelines, instead writing as you would speak to another person. However, adult language such as profanity should be avoided unless it directly relates to the subject being discussed. In addition, be sure to respect other users.

Messages concerning other users

For messages concerning other users rather than pages, see their user talk pages. Like discussion page for normal articles, these are located under the discussion tab of their userpage (linked to in edit histories and ideally their signatures).

Non-talk page discussions

Major discussions that concern the wiki should be held on talk pages so that all users can participate. For less major discussions and all discussions not related to the wiki as a resource, see MiiWiki:Social media.
