Battleground Z is a subgame of the StreetPass Mii Plaza. It was released in 2015 alongside Ultimate Angler, Premium Pass and Mii Plaza's Version 4.0. It's a hack-'n'-slash that sees you defeating hordes of Zombies and rescue survivors under guidance of Dr. Scarlet to find and produce a cure for a recent Zombie outbreak in Hobbiville, StreetPass Country.

Story

Your Mii is taking a subway train, reading an Advertisement of a huge Sale, when the subway enters a tunnel. At this moment, you notice a ringing, pink smartphone and a mysterious vial. The phone belongs to Dr. Scarlet, informing you that you need to find some sort of weapon immediately. After finding a Wii Mote in the subway car, you use it to slash through a few Zombies that made it into the Subway. Dr. Scarlet, a scientist specializing in unusual pathogens, believes she can formulate a cure to the outbreak, but needs someone inside the city to help her.

Gameplay

Tagged Miis get brought into this game as Survivors. The first survivor will instruct you what exactly you need to do in a mission and give you your first weapon. Additional Survivors are placed into the map, saving them will reward you with more weapons.

As Hobbiville is a peaceful city in which Miis just do their Hobbies, all weapons are improvised. The weapons the survivors give you are determined by the Mii's hobby, or a random weapon if no hobby is selected or it's a "found survivor", which can be bought with 2 Play Coins.

Weapons and Associated Hobby
Wii Remote Gaming
Broom Cleaning

The weapons you get help you defeat the zombies you will meet along the way. Pressing 'A' will perform an attack, and holding 'A' will do a special attack. There are a limited amount of uses of the special attack per weapon, so having more weapons lets you use more special attacks. You can switch weapons with the L and R buttons.

Weapons also have durability. If you get attacked by zombies, the durability will decrease. If it reaches 0, you lose your active weapon. If you have no weapons left, you loose the mission. You can retry the mission up to 2 times, loosing a 3rd time will show a cutscene of your Mii being overrun by zombies and force you back to the title screen. All survivors and found survivors are lost.

Depending on the mission, you must either defeat all zombies, reach a goal or survive a specific time. There are also bonus objectives in each mission, like reaching the goal very quickly or not loosing any weapons. 1 of these objectives is often to defeat all special zombies. Special Zombies can appear if you have a specific weapon and do not show up otherwise. Though you do know which weapons your survivors will lend you, which Special Zombies appear on which missions isn't shown.
