Bonus dies are special dices that the player receives depending what placing the player got: 1st place gets a golden die (contains numbers 1-6), 2nd place gets a silver die (contains numbers 1-3), 3rd place gets a bronze die (contains numbers 1-2), and 4th place doesn't get a bonus die. If the player gets Doubles (simply known as "Double" in the PAL version), they get to roll another die.

— In-game description

Board Game Island is a game mode in Wii Party.

Gameplay

Players must get to the top of the island while facing some challenges along their way. Before the turn starts, everyone will play a 4-player Minigame which determines the order they will go (If there is a tie, a die roll decides the order.)

Bonus Dice

Bonus dies are special dice that the player receives depending what placing the player got: 1st place gets a golden die (contains numbers 1-6), 2nd place gets a silver die (contains numbers 1-3), 3rd place gets a bronze die (contains numbers 1-2), and 4th place doesn't get a bonus die. If the player gets Doubles (simply known as "Double" in the PAL version), they get to roll another die.

Spaces

Different spaces in this mode cause an effect to happen to the player. But they aren't really cumulative, meaning that if the player gets launched to another space, that space is unaffected. The only exception is the -4 space which was caused by the volcano's eruption.

Challenges

In Board Game Island, there are six challenges along the path:

Vine Leap

The player jumps onto a vine and starts swinging. A dice will be rolled determining how far the player goes.

  • Penalty: None
  • Odds: 100%

Dragon Wall

A dragon wall with a statue in it blocks the path. The player must break the dragon statue to advance.

  • Penalty: The player must 4 or higher to destroy the dragon wall and advance. If they don't, the statue will shot a fireball at the player and they will have to do try again until it is beaten.
  • Odds: 50%

Crates or Barrels

The player gets to decide which path to go across the waterfall. One side is crates and the other is barrels. After they pick one, they will see if they made it across or not.

  • Penalty: If something on the path the player breaks, they will have to swim to the other side of the waterfall and their number of spaces will drop to 0.
  • Odds: 50%

Volcano or Not

This challenge is required to roll at least a 3 to avoid going into the volcano.

  • Penalty: If the player rolls a number less than 3, they get pushed into the volcano.
  • Odds: 66%

Spike Ball

The player has to roll at least a 5 to break the dragon statue.

  • Penalty: If they roll a number less than 5, the statue will throw a spike ball and the players who were in that path must run back 11 spaces in order to not get hit by it. This affects all players. Then the spike ball returns to its original place and the number to pass decreases by one. If the players fail the challenge 4 times, the dragon statue will break, causing everyone to proceed.
  • Odds:
    • 33% if it's a 5
    • 50% if it's a 4
    • 66% if it's a 3
    • 83% if it's a 2

Final Challenge

In this final challenge, the player is required to get at least a 6 to destroy the statue wall and win the game. This challenge can use a bonus die to increase the odds of winning.

  • Penalty: If they get a 1 to 5, nothing bad happens. The player stays where they were.
  • Odds:
    • 76% with a golden die
    • 57% with a silver die
    • 53% with a bronze die
    • 17% without a bonus die

Trivia

  • When a player is inside the volcano, their dot on the map will become transparent and won't move until they get out of it.
  • In the intro sequence, the Miis appear to be floating.
  • A dinosaur is seen swimming near the bridge on the island. However, when a player is tossed by a blue statue, it's not there.
