Regarding Miitopia's abbreviation

I don't know where this discussion should actually go, but given this page's "Naming" section contains a list of abbreviations for the games we cover, this is the best place I could think of to talk about it.

Currently, Miitopia is the only "single-word titled" game listed on this page's "Naming" section, using the first two consonants for its abbreviation. However, Miitomo is another Mii-focused game with a single-worded title that starts with "Miito-", so the "MT" abbreviation can very well apply to that game too, potentially leading to confusion (in fact, this Miitomo file uses "MT").

Given that we differentiated Wii Play and Wii Party's abbreviations by adding the second letter of the second word, I think it's best to change Miitopia's abbreviation (I'm leaning towards "MTP") to differentiate it from Miitomo (this file uses "MTM", so I think we should use that). Agreed, although won't make the change quite yet in case anyone has any better ideas for Miitopia (I think MTP works though). ---PinkYoshiFan 00:58, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Regarding the "Sourcing" section of this page

Sorry for making another talk page post so soon after my last one, but I feel I need to address this because lately I've been seeing some users questioning a few of the rules on here (specifically, the ones on the "Sourcing" section).

First rule I wanna bring up is on the fourth bullet point, which states that screenshots from YouTube videos are not allowed to be used on this wiki. However, TheMasonfrom3R and Ninchat pointed out that YouTube screenshots are the only feasible way to obtain images from certain discontinued or unreleased software (although in the case of Miiverse, the Wayback Machine already has archived several posts/communities, so there's probably a better example). Sure, PinkYoshiFan stated here that using permission from the original uploader is fine, but nowhere on this page does it ever state that.

Second, I wanna bring up the second bullet point, which recommends not to emulate games the reader doesn't own. Problem is, there are some games that are either too expensive or outright impossible to own legally nowadays (this especially applies to WiiWare and 3DS/Wii U eShop games, as their respective stores shut down and the majority of which have not seen official rereleases since), meaning emulation is the only feasible way to own these games. Additionally, the fourth bullet point states that emulation is a valid method to obtain screenshots, anyway (while I assume it meant emulated games the reader already owns, it should've clarified that to begin with, otherwise bullet point 2 and bullet point 4 come off as contradicting each other).

With the info I have provided above, I am concerned if these rulesets might be too restrictive or there just aren't enough clarifications to make them cohesive enough. The Jacketed Terrapin (talk) 08:18, 21 May 2024 (UTC) I'm no expert on the rules of the wiki, but HOW EXACTLY are we going to prove that, say I take a screenshot with an emulator, that I didn't install any extra mods? Just thought that I would bring that up too. --Logangsta (talk) 09:02, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
