Dreams are a feature of the Tomodachi series that can occur when a Mii is sleeping. Sleeping Miis that are currently dreaming will have a thought bubble above their heads containing the kanji 夢 (yume, literally meaning dream) in the Japanese version, or a yellow crescent moon with a blue background in Western versions. Tapping this bubble will let the player view the dream. Dreams are randomly picked from a list, and some have interactive elements; many have further variations that nevertheless count as the same kind of dream. Once the dream is over, either by letting it reach its conclusion if it has one or by tapping the back button, the dreaming Mii will wake up and the player will receive an item related to the dream (in Collection, an item is not received if the Mii was napping). Dreaming Miis that were napping will stay awake, while Miis that were sleeping for the night will only be awake for a moment before going back to sleep.
Hypnotism
Specific dreams can be directly invoked through the Hypnotizer item, though only dreams that the player has viewed before on the current save file can be watched through this method. To use it, the player must give the item to a currently awake Mii and put them to sleep by swinging the pendulum back and forth using the touch screen or by tilting the system. The player can also spin the pendulum in a circle, causing the Mii to get dizzy. Once the Mii has passed out, the player can select from a collection of previoulsy viewed dreams which one they want to see. The selection appears as bubbles containing the subjects of the dreams in Collection and a list of dreams by name in Life. The player will not receive an item from dreams viewed this way.
List of Dreams
In Tomodachi Collection
All dream names are unofficial, as dreams are unnamed in-game.
Name | Image | Summary | Item Received |
---|---|---|---|
Echo | The dreamer calls out words and phrases to the distance, listening to them echo back. Sometimes the echo calls back with something completely different than the Mii said, which surprises them. | Energy drink
| |
Kaiju | The dreaming Mii is standing in a city, when they suddenly shout "Transform!" and gain pajamas (blue for male Miis, pink for female Miis) and begin to grow to an immense size. Another giant Mii wearing a dinosaur suit stands nearby watching them. The dreamer can punch or fire beams to destroy two buildings in front of them. | Dinosaur suit
| |
Feeding | Three Miis, including the dreamer, appear in a bird's nest, chirping like baby birds. A hand holding a spoonful of food can be guided with the stylus to feed the Miis. | Bird nest
| |
Hey, Hey, Listen! | The dreamer calls "Hey, hey, listen!" to an animal or object, then tells it about something that one or more Miis did. The animal or object turns to the dreamer for a moment, then turns away before the dreamer speaks again. | Megaphone
| |
Mii Rangers Assemble | A squad of five Miis as colored rangers, including the dreamer, call out their names in sequence. The leader introduces the team as the Mii Rangers, and they all pose together before an explosion causes them all to scatter and fall into the background. | Superhero costume in the color worn by the dreaming Mii
| |
Mii Rangers Ready | A squad of five Miis as colored rangers, including the dreamer, stand in a line. They switch between poses every time the leader says "Ready!" | Superhero costume in the color worn by the dreaming Mii
| |
Occupied | The dreamer rushes into a bathroom, but is met with an endless line of occupied stalls. Each stall door can be knocked on with the stylus, producing a comment from the person inside that the stall is in use. | Toilet paper
| |
Bungee Jump | The dreaming Mii stands at a bungee jump platform over a large city, with another Mii behind them. Occasionally, the dreamer hesitates and asks questions of the Mii behind them, whereupon the Mii answers and waves them on. This continues until the player pokes the dreamer's back to make them fall. | Bungee cord
| |
Concentration | In an old Japanese-style room, the dreaming Mii meditates beside another Mii who is holding a wooden rod. A random food appears in a thought bubble to the right of the dreaming Mii. After a few seconds, the other Mii notices the bubble and taps the dreamer with the rod, reprimanding them. | The food depicted in the dream
| |
Come Back | The dreamer chases after a random food while calling out its name, and they can be tapped with the stylus to chase after it. This dream has three main variations:
|
The food depicted in the dream
| |
Rokurokubi | The dreamer sits near the bottom of the screen wearing a kimono. Their head can be dragged around with the stylus, causing their neck to lengthen while a high-pitched tone plays. | Kitsune udon
| |
Lost in Space | The dreamer appears as an astronaut floating in space. When tapped with the stylus, the dreamer will float off into the distance until they are no longer visible. | Moonstone
| |
Rolling Head | The dreamer is chased by the giant head of another Mii rolling after them. | Soccer ball
| |
Unravel | The dreamer wears a pink kimono with a long band of fabric around their waist. The player can unravel the fabric endlessly by pulling on it with the stylus, causing the Mii to spin around. | Color plain kimono
| |
Pepper | The dreaming Mii stands next to a pepper shaker as big as they are. The player can grab the pepper and shake it over the dreamer to make them sneeze. | Ramen
| |
Farewell | The dreamer appears in a trench coat with a suitcase, and waves goodbye to another Mii. After they turn to leave, they will repeatedly hesitate by pausing and frowning before turning back around to say something else, which the other Mii will respond to. | Trench coat depicted in the dream
| |
Edamame | An edamame is shown, and the player can tap each of its three pods to pop out a Mii from each one. | Edamame
| |
Staring | The dreamer is shown reading a newspaper in their apartment, with another Mii behind them staring. Periodically, the dreamer will turn around to look at them, but the other Mii will turn away. The dreamer asks why they're staring, but the other Mii denies anything is happening before both Miis return to their original positions. | Totem pole
| |
Balance | The dreamer stands on a perch, and asks for the player's help. The player must guide a large finger to the Mii for them to climb onto, and bring them to another perch on the opposite side of the screen. If the player is not careful in handling the Mii or moves them too quickly, they will fall off. | Balance toy
| |
Levitation | The dreaming Mii is shown asleep in their apartment, only with their bed floating in midair. | Clock

The FutureUS
20XXEU |
The dreaming Mii is shown as if they were being visited in their apartment, but with an elderly appearance. They say that it's been fifty years since they've last seen the player, then follow it up with a comment on how things are going or how much time has passed. | CaneUS/Walking stickEU
| |
Solar PoweredUS
SolarEU |
The dreaming Mii has a large solar panel on their head, and when the system's camera is exposed to a significant amount of light, they will exercise either by lifting weights or by doing squats. A meter on the touch screen measures how strong the light is, which affects how fast the Mii exercises. If the maximum amount of light is detected, the Mii will begin to look alarmed. | Solar panel
| |
Unbelievable | Inside the dreamer's apartment, a Mii tells the dreamer an outrageous secret. In response, the dreamer appears shocked and their face flies out of the apartment and into space, before coming back down and settling back on their head. The other Mii then admits to making it all up. Sometimes, the dreamer will not be shocked, instead telling the other Mii that everyone already knows the secret. The other Mii's face will then fly off instead, and the dreamer tells them that they were just kidding. | Whoopee cushionUS, EU

The dreamer chases a random food item around a table, which is attached to a string fastened to the dreamer's back. They will occasionally get tired and pause, or run or leap after it. | The food depicted in the dream
| |
Hiding | Three treasures are suspended from colored ropes in the dreamer's apartment, which can be pulled on via the touch screen to lift the treasures. A group of tiny Miis, including the dreamer, will try to hide behind the treasures, running to a different one if the one they are hiding behind is lifted. Occasionally, Miis will hang on to the rope when it is pulled, dropping to the ground and running after a few seconds. | Hamster suit in a random color
| |
Door | The dreaming Mii is shown hanging off of a door handle with four other Miis hanging onto them. The chain of Miis can be grabbed, stretched, and flung around with the stylus. | Door handle
| |
Stick Figure | The dreamer is depicted as a head on a box-shaped figure made of lines. It can be dragged around the touch screen by the head (in the Western releases) or by a line coming out of the head (in the Japanese and Korean releases). | Box of matches
| |
Drive | The dreamer takes the form of a bobble-head doll/hanging charm (depending on the version) on the dashboard of a car driving down a road, with two other Miis sitting in the front seats. Periodically, the driver will stop the car to make a comment or question to the Mii in the passenger seat. When the two finish talking, they will continue driving. This happens three times before the dream ends. The doll/charm will bounce around with the motion of the car. | Hula girlUS, EU, KO

BackpackUS
RucksackEU |
The dreamer appears as a tiny skeleton figure attached to another Mii's backpack by a string. The other Mii can walk normally, walk happily, and skip, causing the dreaming Mii to bounce around. ReflectionUS
MirrorEU |
There are four varieties of this dream, all involving the dreamer using the mirror item:
|
Marionette
| |
SuperheroUS
TransformEU |
A miniature version of a random Mii dressed in a fairy costume alerts the dreaming Mii of some catastrophe, calling for the Mii's help. The dreaming Mii holds up a random food item, shouting "By the power of [food]!", and transforms, giving them a different hair color and a superheroine costume (if the dreamer is female) or a robo-hero suit (if the dreamer is male). Both genders receive the superheroine costume in the Japanese and Korean versions. Their voice becomes high-pitched, and they give a line of advice to watching children as if the dream was a TV show. | Robo-hero suit (male Mii) or superheroine costume (female Mii) depicted in the dreamUS, EU

Crazy HairUS
Rustly HairEU |
The dreaming Mii's normal hair is replaced with multiple physics-affected hair strands. They stand on top a wooden pole that can be dragged around with the stylus to make the hair move around. Blowing into the system microphone also makes the hair blow around. The player can tap a button on the touch screen reading "Don't just stand there!" (US release)/"Do something!" (EU release) to make the Mii wiggle and wave their body in various ways. | Comb

Factory TourUS
Factory VisitEU |
A machine holds four copies of the dreaming Mii above a large vat filled with a random color of paint. Pressing the circle button on the touch screen submerges the copies in the paint, dying them the respective color, and pressing the arrow button moves the copies to the right, replacing them with four fresh ones. | Paint bucketUS/Tin of paintEU
| |
Giant | The dreamer is shown sitting by a window with the curtains closed. After a few seconds, the curtains open to reveal a view of the player from the system's front-facing camera. If the camera detects a face, the Mii will notice the player looking at them and panic. | Security camera
| |
Ritual | A circle of Miis, including the dreamer, march in sync around a random food, treasure, or good, repeating "All hail the [item]!" (US release)/"My [item]!" (EU release). | Food, treasure, or good depicted in the dream

Red ThreadUS
Red StringEU |
The dreamer sits on the ground with a red string attached to their hand that leads offscreen. The string tugs on the Mii, prompting them to follow it to the end. On the end of the string can be a Mii of the opposite gender, a random food item, or nothing at all. | Red thread
| |
Sneeze | This dream has two variations:
|
Cold medicine
| |
Royalty | The dreamer sits at a long table between six other Miis wearing curly-locks wigs. The Miis will ask questions concerning the status of the country or ruler of another Mii. The addressed will give a positive or neutral statement in response, often referring to them as "darling". All the Miis aside from the dreamer will then put a hand up to their face and laugh, before another Mii is addressed. The dreaming Mii looks back and forth between the others for the duration of the dream, seeming confused. | Curly-locks wig in the color depicted in the dream

Hat TrapUS
HatEU |
The dreamer is lured under a large straw hat propped up by a stick by a random food item underneath. The hat then falls on top of them, capturing them. Occasionally, the dreamer can notice the trap and flee out from under it, saving them from being caught. | Straw hat of a random color
| |
Hermit Crab | The dreamer is depicted as a snail crawling alongside a ruler. Sometimes, two other snail Miis crawl with them, appearing to race. | Escargot
| |
Ninja | The dreamer sits in an old Japanese-style room, with a Mii dressed in a ninja outfit occasionally spying on them by flipping one of the wall panels. The third time this happens, the dreamer watches the wall until the ninja reappears. The dreamer and ninja either nod at each other, or the ninja flips back into the wall when the dreamer gets up to look closer. Alternatively, the Mii can look at the ninja right as it flips into the room, and the two will nod at each other. | Ninja costume depicted in the dream
| |
An Island I Saw Somewhere(JP version only) | The island from Tomodachi Collection appears onscreen, with its original background music playing. The music begins to slow down and distort, while the image becomes wavy, and both fade out. | Nintendo DS card
| |
Pig Chase(KO version only) | The dreamer chases after a pig on a grassy field, with up to two more Miis joining in. Sometimes, a giant pig will start chasing after the Miis after four passes, with the small pig running happily behind them. Otherwise, the dream goes for nine attempts to catch the pig. | Golden pig (if the giant pig appears)
Stone pig (if the giant pig does not appear)
| |
Bungee Jump(KO version only) | Identical to the same dream in Collection. The dreamer stands at the top of a bungee jump platform over a city, with another Mii behind them. They occasionally ask the other Mii questions or express uncertainty of performing the jump, where they receive reassurance from the other Mii. The player can make them fall by tapping their back. | Rubber rope
| |
Ritual Fan Dance(KO version only) | A group of Miis in robes with hand fans move onscreen, forming a circle around the dreaming Mii and dancing around them before moving offscreen again. |
Trivia
- The Mii's lengthening neck in the "Rokurokubi" dream is likely meant to imitate the youkai Rokurokubi, which has a neck that can stretch to incredibly long lengths.
- The "Bungee Jump" dream is the only dream from Collection to make a reappearance in Life, but exclusively in the Korean version.
- The color of the Mii's hair when they transform in the "Superhero" dream determines their hero name and which phrase they say afterward.
- In the "Crazy Hair" dream, the dreaming Mii will appear with hair of whatever color it's set to, even if the Mii is currently bald.
- The paint in the "Factory Tour" dream can additionally be black or white in the Japanese version of the game.
- Spinach appearing in the European version of the "Workout/Muscles" dream to energize the Mii when they eat it is likely a reference to the Popeye cartoon.
- The title of the "Hermit Crab" dream refers to a different kind of animal than what is depicted in it; the Miis in the dream are dressed as snails, not hermit crabs.
