Phrases are a feature in Tomodachi Life where a Mii can say a phrase chosen by the player under various conditions. There are five phrases, with the first being a regular catchphrase that they say when the Mii has leveled up. The other four are given randomly when a Mii has a Problem. The four are for emotions: Happy, Sad, Angry, and Worried. Each has 8 animations that you can give to the Mii with the catchphrase. You can also change the catchphrase at any time when the Mii isn't asleep.

How catchphrases work

Phrases can be activated by simply entering a Mii's apartment. They can also be activated via certain other events, such as an angry phrase being used when a Mii just had a fight, or a sad one when they have had a breakup or rejection.
