Matt is one of the CPU Miis and arguably one of the most recognizable of the official Nintendo Miis.

Game Appearances

Wii Sports

Matt's first appearance was in Wii Sports. He appears in Tennis with Miyu as your first opponents, Baseball, and is the champion Boxing, with his dominant arm being consistently left. His rankings in each sport are:

Sport Rank
Baseball 55
Boxing 0
Tennis 54

He also appears as the trainer for Boxing.

Wii Music

In the Wii Music artwork he plays the güiro.

Wii Sports Resort

In Wii Sports Resort, he is the champion of Swordplay. He also appears in Basketball, Table Tennis, and Cycling. His dominant arm in Table Tennis is left. His rankings in each sport are:

Sport Rank
Table Tennis 48
Swordplay 0
Basketball 70
Cycling 73

Wii Party

In Wii Party, default score rankings show he is Good Buddies with Lucía, the best pair in the game at 70 points.

Nintendo Switch Sports

As of the version 1.2.0 update, Matt is a hidden opponent in Nintendo Switch Sports. He can be fought by holding down l and zl or r and zr while selecting the Powerhouse difficulty in Chambara. This is a reference to him being the best player in the same sport back in Resort (when it was called Swordplay). His appearance has been updated on the Switch; now his skin is darker and some of his facial features have slightly different positions. In Nintendo Switch Sports, he wears the Official Gear (Purple) clothing. His in-game title is "Legend."

Trivia

  • Due to his popularity as the trainer and champion in Boxing and the Swordplay champion, Matt has become an Internet Meme, with various jokes being made about his strength being heavily exagerated for comical purposes.[1]
    • The popularity of Matt on the internet seems to have been caught up by Nintendo who have used Matt in some Nintendo Switch Sports tweet advertising the Miis being playable in-game[2].
  • In the background of the Boxing training gym, some newspaper clippings can be found of an implied younger version of Matt fighting as a professional boxer. Text can be seen saying "Go Champ!", "K.O.!", and "LEGEND." The images feature an implied younger version of Andy and an indistinguishable male Mii.
  • According to a file in the September 2020 Nintendo leak about CPU Miis, Matt's nationality is North American.
