Golf is a sport appearing in Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports Club, and Nintendo Switch Sports. The object of the game is to hit the ball across the course and into the hole with one of the four different clubs. The rules are similar to that of real-life golf, but simpler.
Gameplay
Wii Sports
The main objective of golf is to hit the ball into the hole in the fewest shots possible. If the player is to hit the ball out of bounds, or into the water, they must try the shot again, with a one shot penalty. If the player takes 3 times the par in strokes, they will be forced to give up, keeping their current score, either a +6, +8 , or +10. -22 is the theoretical best score, although technically not possible because the ball is usually too far for any club to get it to the hole in one shot. The maximum legitimate skill level achievable for golf is 2868.
Clubs
There are four clubs in the game: Putter (<30yd), Wedge (<75yd), Iron (<115yd), and Driver (<205yd). When taking a stroke, the recommended club is pre-selected.
To hit the ball, the Wii remote is swung as an actual golf club would be swung while is being held. There is a meter to measure the strength of the shot. If the player hits the ball harder than the meter measures, the ball will not go straight. The dots on the meter are also represented on the minimap of the hole, which allows the player to determine the ideal force to use on the ball.
Holes
There are three difficulties, with three holes each: beginner, intermediate, and expert. Each difficulty can be played separately, or all nine holes can be played at once.
When the player is near the green, pressing will toggle eye-level camera mode, and pressing will toggle height indicator colors on the green.
All of the holes in Wii Sports are modified versions of the holes from NES Golf.
Players
Golf is playable with one to four players. Similar to Bowling, there is no minimum number of players, and solo rounds are possible. Therefore there are no CPU players at all. If multiple people are playing, the player farthest from the hole goes, after an initial one stroke for each player.
Wind
There is a wind meter at the top right of the screen. It displays the current wind speed and direction. The wind is reset at the start of every hole. In a nine-hole game, the wind speed is chosen randomly between 0 and 30 mph. In a three-hole game, the wind speed is determined by the difficulty. 0 to 10mph for beginner, 10 to 20mph in intermediate, and 20 to 30mph in expert.
- If the ball falls off the cliff and into the water at the start of the fourth hole, it is considered out of bounds instead of a water hazard.
Wii Sports Resort
Gameplay remains largely unchanged from Wii Sports. The most noticeable difference is the addition of pointing the Wii remote downwards and pressing before being allowed to swing. This sets a reference point for "down" in the game, making swinging the club more precise.
9 new "Resort" holes are added. The original 9 "Classic" holes are still playable.
Minor graphical changes are present as well.
More golf clubs are added, for a total of 8.
- Putter (<35yd)
- Wedge (<80yd)
- 9 Iron (<100yd)
- 7 Iron (<135yd)
- 5 Iron (<155yd)
- 3 Iron (<175yd)
- 3 Wood (<200yd)
- Driver (<250yd)
Wii Sports Club
In Wii Sports Club, Golf remains largely unchanged from its appearance in Wii Sports. Most modifications are cosmetic, and the only notable gameplay change is now the maximum number of strokes is par plus 6, instead of 3 times the par.
Nintendo Switch Sports
Golf was planned to be added to Nintendo Switch Sports as a free update sometime in the fall of 2022,[1] but was delayed to holiday 2022,[2] then released on November 28, 2022.

The golf clubs are as follows, from strongest to weakest:

- Spoon
- 3-Iron
- 5-Iron

Trivia
- Holding after the warning screen for a game of Golf causes the map, power meter, and wind speed meter to disappear.
- If the ball is closer than 10 feet to the hole, or hits the flag, the crowd will say "whoa!".
- Golf is the only sport that is played the same in all Wii Sports games, just with different holes.
